But wait, what is Amazon Prime Big Deal Days?
You might be thinking "but, wait...didn’t we just have Prime Day?" That was July Prime Day, but this is October Prime Day—better known as Amazon Prime Big Deals Days. It’s yet another chance to score big savings on Prime Day beauty deals, fashion deals, tech deals, and of course kitchen deals, which is what you're doing here. And while you don’t need a coupon or promo code to access many of the offers that pop up during this two-day sales event, you do need to be a Prime Member if you want to get the very best prices on the most popular items. But if you’re not already a member, don’t worry; there’s still time to sign up for a free 30-day trial, just make sure you’re signed in to your new account once you start shopping.
Kitchen necessities under $25
You’re probably already adding replacement phone chargers, skin-care favorites like sunscreen and moisturizer, smart plugs, and light bulbs to your Amazon cart, but small kitchen tools are great sale-day buys too. During Amazon’s October Prime Day event you can score a deal on our all-time favorite spatula, a handy vegetable chopper, and an old-school can opener that will make you wonder why people are still trying to improve upon a design that’s already perfect. A salad spinner might seem like a superfluous kitchen tool, but we can attest that once you have one, your salad-making life will be changed forever.
Cookware under $25
Ordinarily we aren't jumping out of our seats to recommend anyone buy cookware for under $25. For pots and pans you're going to use every day we think you need something durable, even heating, all that. That means stuff like an All-Clad set (which is on sale right now)or a Le Creuset Dutch oven. But there are exceptions. You can often get a long-lasting cast iron pan for cheap, but it's cheaper today. You can also get cute little extras like the adorable GreenPan mini egg pan or a tiny cocotte from, yes, Le Creuset of our favorite Dutch ovens (these are perfect for baked eggs and mini casseroles). And for those pumpkin cookies and cheesecake bars you're baking as fall cozy season gets fully underway, get some fresh sheet pans at a discount, as well as a cooling rack.
Coffee deals under $25
If you really want good coffee we have bad news: You're not going to be able to get everything you need for under 25 bucks. At the very least you'll need a nice burr grinder and healthy supply of fresh coffee beans. But, there are some affordable additions you can make to your set up. You can eschew the fancy espresso machines and go with a tried and true pour-over dripper. Even if you do have a fancy espresso machine, you'll up the quality of your coffee if you make sure you're weighing your beans. And you can pick up a starter scale for cheap today.
Cocktail gear under $25
Let's move from the kitchen to the bar for a moment. Prime Day is a good time to pick up some (but not all) cocktail equipment before you have to start batching out Manhattans and Martinis for Thanksgiving or Christmas. We wouldn't recommend you go cheap on a shaker or mixing glass—they have to put up with a lot of agitation and you should get something sturdy like this Leopold shaker or Yarai mixing glass from Cocktail Kingdom. But some stuff is absolutely worth picking up on discount. Like bar spoons for stirring the aforementioned Manhattans and Martinis. Or ice cube trays for making huge rocks to go in an Old Fashioned. Or a bell jigger—practice a bit with one of these and you'll impress the family that's coming over for the holidays.
Shatterproof tableware under $25
Summer might be over, but outdoor dining season is still going strong. We are firm believers in grilling and eating outside in the fall—we recommend a shatterproof plastic set and a some melamine plates for stress-free serving. Some of this discounted melamine is so stylish you can even get away with using it as everyday tableware.
Tumblers and water bottles under $25
A high-quality insulated water bottle is always a good investment—hydration is life!—but our favorites aren't exactly cheap. Right now however, some of the best October Prime Day deals include markdowns on water bottles and tumblers from bestselling and trending brands like Yeti, Hydroflask, Thermos, and S'well. And if you're one of those people who collects cute water bottles like they're going out of style, you might also want to pick up an on-sale organizer that lets you store them all horizontally so you don't end up losing a favorite to the dark depths of your upper cabinets.
Cleaning and storage gear under $25
Cleanup is one of the least fun parts of the cooking process, but the cleaning and storage tools below make it so much better. Prime Day is the best time to re-up everything you’ll need to keep your kitchen sparkling clean and organized. Get one of our favorite powder cleaners in a bundled discount set, or an editor-favorite (as seen on Shark Tank) sponge and dish scrubber. You can also nab a microfiber cloth our cleaning guru Emily Farris swears by. You can never have too many microfiber cleaning cloths—especially once you learn that they more you use and wash them, the less effective they are at removing contaminants from surfaces. Refresh your supply before the holidays with this colorful 12-pack from one of our favorite cleaning brands, Mr. Siga.
Sales on snacks, drinks, and ingredients
Save when you fill your pantry with a variety of condiments from Fly by Jing, which makes one of our favorite chili crisps and wash it down with the trendy probiotic soda Poppi. You can also save on some of our favorite favorite protein bars, without even having to make a trip to Costco. Today, you can also score a deal on some salty, crunchy edamame bean snacks that we love purely for their flavor, but the fact that they're packed with protein doesn't hurt anything, either. And don't sleep on crunchy, salty, endlessly snackable mushrooms.
We always expect tech deals during the Prime Big Deal Days sales event; it’s a great time to get a discounted iPhone, Kindle, or Apple laptop from Amazon and other retailers. But this is also the best time to save on smaller smart gadgets that will make your time in the kitchen more pleasant—and perhaps even more productive. For example, a cordless bluetooth speaker is nice if you want to listen to music or podcasts while you cook, but a Wi-fi-connected, bluetooth-enabled smart speaker like an Echo Dot or Echo Pop can come in handy when you want to change the song or convert a measurement while cooking and you need Alexa’s help because you're busy rolling gnocchi. A pair of bluetooth-enabled headphones can also be useful when you want to go hands free and talk on the phone while you're whipping up dinner, but if you’re not planning to splurge on expensive Airpods (even at that sweet Prime Day sale price) Amazon Echo earbuds have many of the same features and work with your smart-home setup too. And if you’re wondering why there’s a Wifi security camera on this list, it happens to be the best way to ease your anxiety when you want to simmer or slow cook something all day but actually have to leave the house.
